Fat lovers now get a reason to be happy. They are better in bed than their slimmer counterparts. A recent study by a team of researchers from Erciyes University in Turkey revealed that chubby men can prolong their sex session to an average 7.3 minutes and are much less likely to suffer from premature ejaculation PE. The study may come as a surprise to many women out there who believe that fat men are good for nothing especially in bed.

The study reveals that slim lovers are bad performers in bed as their sex session is more likely to end in average 1.8 minutes, thus leaving their women largely unsatisfied. So, all those six- pack people just know one thing that developing six- packs is doing you bad rather than good especially when it comes to satisfying your woman.

The researchers blamed it on the lower level of hormones called oestradiol, which is a female sex hormone and a form of oestrogen which affects premature ejaculation in slim men. Whereas in fat men, the levels of this hormone is comparatively higher this eventually disrupts the balance of neurotransmitters in brain that controls ejaculation. This level of hormone in fat men is affected by their additional layers of fat in their body.

For the purpose of study, researchers recorded the BMI (body mass index) of over 100 men suffering from premature ejaculation and compared them with those without the problem. And the findings revealed that men with much lower BMI were more likely to experience PE than the chubby ones.

The study was published in the International Journal of Impotence Research.

Inaugurating the 11th Conference of Central Council of Health and Public Welfare, Azad called upon the State health ministers to strengthen the public health system for the prevention and control of infectious diseases.

“The states were also requested to increase their health budgets to meet the growing demands of the health sector,” he added.

He also underlined the need for placing trained and motivated personnel to enhance the capacity of the health system to manage both communicable as well as non communicable diseases.

He drew the attention of health ministers to the most critical subject of population stabilization in the country and requested them to discuss this issue in state legislatures, Zilla Parishads and Panchayats to build up a broad-based political consensus for population stabilization.

He urged states to concentrate on implementing laws governing the age of marriage, and encourage young couples to delay their first child and maintain spacing between the first and second child.

Expressing concern at the menace of spurious drugs and adulteration of food, he called upon the state health ministers to enforce provisions of the PFA Act strictly.

He emphasized the need for strengthing the enforcement machinery by filling up the vacant posts of food and drug inspectors and by upgrading the laboratories with proper equipment and trained personnel.

Azad also assured that his ministry would engage in discussions with the Board of Governors of the Medical Council of India to explore the possibility of further liberalization in existing norms.

Shortly after Australia banned flu vaccines in children due to an alarming increase in vomiting, fevers and seizures caused by the vaccines, Finland has now suspended H1N1 vaccines due to increased reports of narcolepsy in children and teens. Narcolepsy is a nervous system disorder characterized by extreme fatigue and daytime sleepiness. It indicates a serious malfunction of the brain and nervous system.

Finland is now reporting that narcolepsy is appearing in children immediately following vaccination with H1N1 vaccines. So far, six children are confirmed of suffering the neurological side effect and nine more are in the process of being confirmed, reports The Epoch Times.

The Finland National Institute for Health (THL) said in a press release that the cause of the narcolepsy may be the vaccine, and they are investigating further.

Sweden’s Medical Products Agency, meanwhile, launched a similar investigation on August 19 to try to determine the cause of post-vaccination narcolepsy also found in children there. The vaccines appear to be causing a pattern of neurological disorders affecting children and teens across the planet.

The harm caused by flu vaccines
H1N1 swine flu vaccines and seasonal flu vaccines have been linked to seizures and other neurological disorders, and they have resulted in some children and teens being paralyzed or even killed. At the same time, there is no scientific evidence whatsoever that seasonal flu vaccines are even safe or effective — they’ve never been subjected to double-blind, placebo-controlled studies, which are considered the “gold standard” of scientific investigation.

There’s no real evidence that seasonal flu vaccines work at all, in fact. Most of the people who get sick every winter, it turns out, are the very people who got vaccinated. That’s because vaccines actually weaken the immune system and cause increased risk of future infections. A study published in the journal PLoS revealed that seasonal flu vaccination actually increases the risk of H1N1 swine flu infections (“Does Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Increase the Risk of Illness with the 2009 A/H1N1 Pandemic Virus?” Viboud C, Simonsen L (2010) PLoS Med 7(4): e1000259).

Rather than protecting the public, seasonal flu vaccines and H1N1 swine flu vaccines actually leave them more vulnerable to future infections. That simple fact, combined with the increasing reports of neurological side effects being linked to vaccines, should raise serious questions about the reasoning behind any mass-vaccination program.

When it comes to vaccines, children seem to suffer more than adults. It is the children who are winding up in hospitals, convulsing with seizures or suffering narcolepsy. The saddest part of this is that these children could be very effectively protected from seasonal flu with vitamin D, but the medical industry isn’t recommending vitamin D for children.

Vaccines remain the prescription for everyone; even as children around the world are suffering the consequences.

What is Swine flu (H1N1)?
Swine flu is a respiratory disease which infects pigs. Caused by influenza type A virus, there are regular outbreaks among herds of pigs, where the disease causes high levels of illness but is rarely fatal.

It tends to spread in autumn and winter but can circulate all year round.

There are many different types of swine flu and like human flu, the infection is constantly changing.

Swine flu does not normally infect humans, although sporadic cases do occur usually in people who have had close contact with pigs. There have also been rare documented cases of humans passing the infection to other humans.

Human to human transmission of swine flu thought to spread in the same way as seasonal flu – through coughing and sneezing.

The outbreak in Mexico seems to involve a new type of swine flu that contains DNA that is typically found in avian and human viruses. The World Health Organization has confirmed at least some of the cases are caused by this new strain of H1N1.

What are the symptoms of swine flu (H1N1)?
Symptoms of swine flu are similar to most influenza infections: fever (100F or greater), cough, nasal secretions, fatigue, and headache, with fatigue being reported in most infected individuals. Some patients also get nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In Mexico, many of the patients are young adults, which made some investigators speculate that a strong immune response may cause some collateral tissue damage.

Some patients develop severe respiratory symptoms and need respiratory support (such as a ventilator to breathe for the patient). Patients can get pneumonia (bacterial secondary infection) if the viral infection persists, and some can develop seizures. Death often occurs from secondary bacterial infection of the lungs; appropriate antibiotics need to be used in these patients. The usual mortality (death) rate for typical influenza A is about 0.1%, while the 1918 “Spanish flu” epidemic had an estimated mortality rate ranging from 2%-20%. Swine flu in Mexico (as of April 2009) has had about 160 deaths and about 2,500 confirmed cases, which would correspond to a mortality rate of about 6%, but these initial data have been revised and the mortality rate currently in Mexico is estimated to be much lower.

By June 2009, the virus had reached 74 different countries on every continent except Antarctica, and by September 2009, the virus had been reported in most countries in the world. Fortunately, the mortality rate as of October 2009 has been low but higher than for the conventional flu (average conventional flu mortality rate is about 36,000 per year; projected novel H1N1 flu mortality rate is 90,000 per year in the U.S. as determined by the president’s advisory committee).

How is swine flu (H1N1) diagnosed?
Swine flu is presumptively diagnosed clinically by the patient’s history of association with people known to have the disease and their symptoms listed above. Usually, a quick test (for example, nasopharyngeal swab sample) is done to see if the patient is infected with influenza A or B virus.

Most of the tests can distinguish between A and B types. The test can be negative (no flu infection) or positive for type A and B. If the test is positive for type B, the flu is not likely to be swine flu (H1N1). If it is positive for type A, the person could have a conventional flu strain or swine flu (H1N1).

However, the accuracy of these tests has been challenged, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not completed their comparative studies of these tests. However, a new test developed by the CDC and a commercial company reportedly can detect H1N1 reliably in about one hour; as of October 2009, the test is only available to the military.

What treatment is available for swine flu (H1N1)?
The best treatment for influenza infections in humans is prevention by vaccination. Work by several laboratories has recently produced vaccines. The first vaccine released in early October 2009 was a nasal spray vaccine. It is approved for use in healthy individuals ages 2 through 49.

This vaccine consists of a live attenuated H1N1 virus and should not be used in anyone who is pregnant or immunocompromised. The injectable vaccine, made from killed H1N1, became available in the second week of October. This vaccine is approved for use in ages 6 months to the elderly, including pregnant females. Both of these vaccines have been approved by the CDC only after they had conducted clinical trials to prove that the vaccines were safe and effective. However, caregivers should be aware of the vaccine guidelines that come with the vaccines, as occasionally, the guidelines change. Please see the sections below titled “Can novel H1N1 swine flu be prevented with a vaccine?” and the timeline update for the current information on the vaccines.

Two antiviral agents have been reported to help prevent or reduce the effects of swine flu. They are zanamivir (Relenza) and oseltamivir (Tamiflu), both of which are also used to prevent or reduce influenza A and B symptoms. These drugs should not be used indiscriminately, because viral resistance to them can and has occurred. Also, they are not recommended if the flu symptoms already have been present for 48 hours or more, although hospitalized patients may still be treated past the 48-hour guideline. Severe infections in some patients may require additional supportive measures such as ventilation support and treatment of other infections like pneumonia that can occur in patients with a severe flu infection. The CDC has suggested in their interim guidelines that pregnant females can be treated with the two antiviral agents.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (Irda) will shortly come out with guidelines pertaining to administration of health insurance. “The guidelines will basically address claim forms, billing and registration-related issues,” Irda Chairman J Hari Narayan said.

Stating that it would be better if claim forms were similar across the country, Narayan said the regulatory authority had worked with different organisations, including the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, to formulate the proposed guidelines.

Addressing a press conference after inaugurating NSE.IT’s testing and assessment centre here today, Narayan said the issue of cashless medical insurance, which was fundamentally commercial in nature, was between hospitals and insurance companies. “The so called five-star hospitals are now looking into it and I am confident that the issue will be resolved,” he added. Asserting that the deadline for implementing the new guidelines for unit-linked insurance products (Ulips) would not be extended, the Irda chairman said the new norms were aimed at improving the long-term prospects of the insurance industry. “My concern for the insurance industry is not what happens in the six months or a year. What is significant is what is going to happen in the medium to long term,” he said.

Pointing out that Irda wanted insurance companies to reduce their costs, he said he was hopeful that the new Ulip guidelines would have the desired impact in this regard.

Irda had issued new Ulip guidelines on June 28, to be effective from September 1 Narayan said Ulip norms had been substantially tightened and the regulator did not envisage any further tightening.

“There is no such thing as a super regulator. There is just a forum for resolving misunderstandings and overlap of issues between the regulators,” Narayan said when asked about the Bill introduced in the Lok Sabha last month that sought setting up of a joint committee comprising the finance minister as chairperson to resolve differences among the various regulators in the financial sector.

Asked about the inclusion of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority in the joint committee, he said the Bill was still under consideration and one had to see what the final enactment would be.

Earlier, inaugurating the testing and assessment centre, Narayan said Irda was planning to make syllabus for the agent recruitment test comprehensive by including material on policyholder need analysis and complex products like Ulips. The new syllabus is expected to be in place in a span of two-three months. NSE. IT Managing Director and Chief Executive Ramesh Padmanabhan said the company had set a target of establishing 250 test and assessment centres by March 2011. It has so far set up 106 centres.

NSE.IT, an information technology services and solutions organisation, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange.

NEC has approached Hospital Services Consultancy Corp Ltd under the Union ministry of health & family welfare to do a gap analysis of three aspects, including manpower, referral services and health infrastructure in the North East.

The para-medical institution will be set up in public private partnership (PPP) mode. This was decided in an NEC review meeting chaired by Bijoy Krishna Handique, minister of mines and DoNER in Delhi recently.

The institution will be established in the Regional Referral Hospital Campus in Nagaland where adequate land is available. The MoU between NEC and Nagaland will be formally inked next month.

Handique emphasised on the issue of a study on health infrastructure gaps in the North Eastern Region.

The study will not cover the primary health sector but restrict itself to secondary and referral services. It was also decided in the meeting that NEC would conduct the study on the operationalisation of assets in the health sector in Nagaland and Tripura.

Upgradation of the nursing college in Regional College of Nursing, Imphal was also discussed.

Handique also reviewed the status of the studies / action plans in various sectors of Vision 2020 for the North Eastern Region. The action plans for the Inland Waterways and Telecommunications sectors are ready for implementation.

The action plans for other sectors like Railways, tourism, civil aviation, Border Trade and Power Transmission are also in the pipeline. NEC has commissioned a masterplan on circuit-based tourism in the Northeast by TCS. This study has been supported by the tourism ministry.

NEC is also funding a study commissioned by the Director General of Civil Aviation for a comprehensive study and roadmap for civil aviation in Northeast. A study on the Border Trade by Research and Information System for Developing Countries has also been commissioned by NEC.

London: Teenagers who are obsessed with Internet are more likely to become depressed, scientists have claimed, suggesting schools should watch out for early symptoms.

Researchers from Australia and China found teenagers who feel anxious or nervous when they are not on the Internet, called a pathological habit, are two and a half times more likely to develop depression, the Telegraph reported.

The scientists, who examined over 1,000 teenagers with an average age of 15, asked them about their Internet use.

They found that just over six per cent of the teenagers were pathological users of the Internet, who said they felt depressed, moody or nervous when not on the Internet but this disappeared when they were back online.

At the beginning of the study, none of the participants had depression. But nine months after when the teenagers were examined again for signs of anxiety or depression, it was found that the pathological Internet users were two and half times more likely to show signs of the condition than those who used the Internet normally.

Detailing their findings in the journal ‘Archives of Paediatrics & Adolescent Medicine’, the authors led by Lawrence Lam, of the School of Medicine in Sydney, wrote:

“This result suggests that young people who are initially free of mental health problems but use the Internet pathologically could develop depression as a consequence.

“As we understand that mental health problems among adolescents bear a significant personal cost as well as costs to the community, early intervention and prevention that targets at-risk groups with identified risk factors is effective in reducing the burden of depression among young people.

“Screening for at-risk individuals in the school setting could be considered an effective early prevention strategy according to recent meta-analysis.

Hence, a screening programme for pathological use of the Internet could also be considered in all high schools to identify individuals at risk for early counselling and treatment.”

However it cannot be known if teenagers who have a tendency to depression are more likely to be obsessive about the Internet rather than the Internet being the cause of their depression.
